Challenge
Heidelberg Materials, one of the world’s largest building materials producers, is pioneering Carbon Capture, Utilisation & Storage (CCUS) and taking the lead in decarbonising the construction sector.

Our challenge was to communicate this complex innovation to a broad audience. Information on their global CCUS projects was scattered across departments and often highly technical, with little visual material available. Heidelberg needed a central hub that could turn dense content into an engaging resource for everyone from the public to industry experts.

Brief
We were asked to create a multilingual digital experience that would showcase Heidelberg’s leadership in decarbonisation and serve as the go-to resource for CCUS. The platform had to combine clarity and accessibility with innovation and impact – making complex science understandable, inspiring, and relevant, while standing apart from Heidelberg’s other communications.

Solution
We designed an immersive digital experience that combines playful exploration with accessible information, turning technical complexity into a story that is both emotive and memorable. At its heart is a galaxy-like environment created from a particle system using cutting-edge WebGL technology, developed in partnership with Ashfall Studio.

Visitors explore six zones, each represented by a 3D object. Within each zone, content unfolds through films, animations, infographics, and imagery – transforming complex science into engaging narratives. Through an interactive globe, users can explore Heidelberg’s worldwide CCUS projects, each enriched with detailed content and immersive 360° modules offering an intuitive and informative flythrough of their pioneering projects.

The experience is powered by a scalable CMS, ensuring it can grow alongside Heidelberg’s projects and easily support multilingual versions. The result is a digital hub that informs, inspires, and positions Heidelberg Materials as the leader in CCUS communication.
